Sometimes when you are browsing the web you’ll come across a webpage that will not load properly. Instead of seeing the content you will see an error message that talks about something called a script error.
You needn’t be alarmed because there are ways you can fix it, but first you might want to learn a little bit about script errors and why they occur.
In the first place, it may simply be a coding error on the part of the website owner. Some web pages are very old and do not comply with the demands of modern web browsers and because of this some of the content will not display correctly. If this is the case, there is nothing you can do about it except alert the site administrator or webmaster.
Alternatively, it might be a problem with your computer settings.
If you use security software to protect your computer from becoming infected by viruses or Trojans, your security settings on Internet Explorer may have been changed which subsequently causes problems when trying to access certain websites.
Also, if your hardware is more than a couple of years old it may have become outdated or even corrupted through no fault of your own. This can sometimes be fixed by updating all the drivers on your computer and ensuring that you uninstall old drivers which are no longer in use. You may have to have a professional do this for you if you are not competent, but there are plenty of websites will give you step-by-step instructions. You can even download small programs to do this as well.
What do you do if you still see the same errors?
Occasionally, you will still see the same error message even after you have updated your drivers and eliminated any registry problems. The best thing you can do is open up your Internet Explorer browser and select Tools then Internet Options. Under the General tab there is an option to delete your browsing history. Do this and see whether the script error still occurs on the page you are trying to view.
If the error still occurs then you may need to try some advanced troubleshooting tips. Here are some things you can try:
- Turn off the Scripting Debugger in Internet Explorer. On the Tools menu, go to the Advanced tab and tick the box that says Disable Script Debugging. Then click OK.
- Use an alternative computer to see whether you get the same message. If the script error is the same then there is probably a problem with the webpage and there is nothing more you can do about it.
- If the error only occurs on your computer open Internet Explorer again and on the tools menu click Internet Options. Under the Security tab click Default Level, and then click OK.
- If the problem persists, check that you are running the latest version of Internet Explorer and, if necessary, uninstall the program and download the latest version.
- Check that you have downloaded the latest Windows update and make sure any Service Packs have been installed.
If this process does not work you will need a windows utility tool like PC Health Advisor to fix the error for you.
