Don't Defragment!
When you read about how you could make your computer faster and do it without a registry cleaner, you get sometimes advice and "good councils" about that you should defragment, not only hard drives, but also memorycard and usb-memory in order to improve performance.
This is entirely crazy, do not do it! That defragmenting fastens up a hard drive depends on that it works with a movable head that must move around in order to read various parts of a file. Of course the more the file is scattered, the more the head must go back and forward, which slows down the process to read.
Flash memories function entirely different. They work entirely electronicly and have no movable parts. They can read one fragmented file precise equal fast as that one that is cohesive.
Instead, it is of course so that every flashmemory has a finite length of life. Your memorycard or your usb-stick copes with only a certain number written tests, afterwards the memory cells becomes "burnt out".
This applies to all sorts of such memories. Admittedly, it is about quite many thousand times that you can save to an individual cell, but before or latter it dies out.
